Reserve desk items

Reserve desk: Items can be borrowed for 1 hour during the day, to be used in the library only. Most books on reserve are also available for overnight loan. They can be borrowed half an hour before the library closes, but must be returned within an hour after the library opens the next day or overdue penalties will apply.

Fines & suspensions

Please note that graduation from any University of Melbourne degree program is subject to the payment of all outstanding library fees and charges. Patrons are therefore advised to take careful note of the following:

  1. Late return of any books or other items from the library will result in automatic suspension of borrowing privileges until items are returned, and may incur a fine or other charges.
  2. The destruction, loss or mutilation of any library material will incur a fine or replacement fee equal to the current cost of the item(s), plus a processing fee.
  3. The mutilation or theft of library material will result in an automatic referral to MBS administration and may lead to suspension from the school.
  4. For one week prior to commencement of the exam period and during the exam period the McLennan Library may impose a penalty of $50 per day for the late return of reserve desk items and all 3-day loan material. For further details on fines and suspensions, refer to the Library rules.
